Deendayal Divyangjan Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS)

Details

To provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to persons with benchmark disabilities through NGOs by supporting various model projects like special schools, early intervention centres, and therapy units.

Benefits

a. Educational and Rehabilitation Services:

  1. Special education through model schools for various disabilities.

  2. Early childhood intervention and cross-disability pre-schools.

  3. Therapy, counselling, and vocational training.

b. Skill and Life Development:

  1. Development of daily living and social skills.

  2. Psycho-social rehabilitation for persons with mental illness.

  3. Rehabilitation of leprosy-cured persons.

c. Institutional Support:

  1. Grant-in-Aid provided to NGOs for implementing approved model projects.

  2. Funding for staff, infrastructure, equipment, and therapy.

Eligibility

a. Disability Criteria:

  1. Must have benchmark disability of 40% or above.

  2. Valid UDID card required.

b. Age Criteria (varies by model project):

  1. Cross-disability pre-schools/early intervention: 0–6 years

  2. Special schools (hearing/visual/other disabilities): 5–18/23 years

  3. Specific learning disability centres: 3–18 years

  4. Rehabilitation of leprosy-cured persons / Mental illness centres: No age limit

  5. Therapy & counselling centres: No age limit

c. Income Criteria:

  1. No income limit is applicable for beneficiaries.

Application Process (Offline)

a. Physical Admission:

  1. Visit the nearest DDRS-supported Special School or NGO implementing the scheme.

  2. Inquire about the available services and eligibility.

b. Document Submission:

  1. Submit the required documents along with admission/enrolment form to the NGO/center.

c. Screening and Evaluation:

  1. Assessment may be conducted by professionals at the centre for appropriate placement and service.

Documents Required

a. For Beneficiaries (Students/Persons with Disabilities):

  1. UDID Card or valid disability certificate (40% or more).

  2. Birth certificate or school records for age proof (if applicable).

  3. Photographs (passport size).

  4. Any relevant medical or assessment reports.

b. For Implementing Agencies (NGOs):

  1. NGO-Darpan registration proof

  2. Unique ID from NITI Aayog

  3. Documents as per e-Anudaan and PFMS requirements
